Pay As You Go: App Store Launches Subscription Service

Apple's long-rumored subscription service — which saw its first dip-the-toes-in-the-water exponent via The Daily — is now being offer to "all publishers of content-based apps on the App Store, including magazines, newspapers, video, music, etc." as per a Cupertino press release.

Content providers decide the subscription rate and duration(s), customers decide how long they want to subscribe, and the House of Jobs rakes in its traditional 30% share.  Uncle Steve is quick to point out that "when the publisher brings an existing or new subscriber to the app, the publisher keeps 100 percent and Apple earns nothing" — and that if the publisher offers a way to subscribe outside the app, the in-app subscription must be as good or better.
