iPad 2? That's so last week, it's time to learn about the iPad 3!
Okay, bear with us here. The iPad 2 isn't even confirmed yet. Still, that's not stopping the Apple rumor mill from moving full-force into the iPad 3. Sure, the rumors make sense, but even we think it's crazy to be seeing rumors about the iPad 3 this early. The thing is, they all come from a credible source by the name of Ming-Chi Kuo of Concord Securities, according to AppleInsider, who originally posted the rumors. He was the one who originally spilled the beans on Apple's high resolution iPhone 4 screen (which would later be called the Retina Display). They also credit him with being right about the iPhone 4 having twice the ram of the original iPad.
He said that the iPad 3, which will have a 9.7-inch IPS display panel with FFS (fringe-field switching) technology, which they say allows for a wider viewing angle as well as better visual quality in sunlight. The display will be doubled at 2048×1536, something we may not be seeing in the iPad 2 after all.
The reasonsing for not including the high-res display in the iPad 2? Seems that the demand would be difficult if not impossible to meet.
Larger iPod Touch
That's not all, the iPod Touch is also said to be getting some updates. A larger iPod Touch with a 7-inch screen could also be in the works. It would offer a screen density of 164ppi, which is still sharper than the iPad's 132ppi. The idea is that it won't be a smaller iPad, rather, a larger iPod Touch, and would keep the iPod Touch interface rather than scaling down the iPad's.
It's hard to believe that we haven't even heard official words of the iPad 2, but the rumors of the iPad 3 are already starting to spread. Whether Mr. Kuo really knows somehting here, or he's using an educated guess and some common sense, is hard for us to determine. Still, the rumors are interesting.
