Currently, the only way to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 is with some unofficial bundles like the one we learned about last week. The problem is that not only is it not an official jailbreak, it’s a royal pain in the butt to install and after that, it’s still a tethered jb, meaning you have to plug your device in at each reboot. If you have a phone and you have to restart it, guess what? You have no phone until you get back to your computer with your USB cable.
Luckily, it looks like there is an iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak on the way. That’s thanks to this little video put together by Stefan Essar, a hacker based out of Germany. It shows his jailbroken iPod touch 4G.
It seems he won’t be releasing a jailbreak tool. Rather it will be a Cydia package or he will integrate it with Redsn0w if the Dev-Team updates the tools for 4.3.1.
For now, we’ve read that he has not pinned an estimated time for release as he says last time he did so, people began delivering personal attacks, even before the release was due, his comment was the following, “Sorry guys the more you insult people with the knowledge to actually do what YOU WANT the less motivation there is to use our free time to give it to you,” which is included in the description of his YouTube video.
As a side note, there’s still no word on an iPad 2 jailbreak.
Well said, Mr. Essar.
