Netflix is one of our favorite services that’s available today. It lets us watch unlimited streaming movies and rent DVDs for less than $10 a month. What’s best is that most of our toys actually have support for the service. Whether it’s Apple TV, the Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, iPhone, iPod touch or the iPad, we have a way to watch great movies instantly…so long as there’s an internet connection.
Still, of all the Netflix apps we’ve tried, the iPad by far had the worst interface. It was slow and cumbersome. Mostly because it was really nothing more than the website ported onto the iPad’s interface. Strangely, even then, it ran much slower than the actual Netflix site did on the tablet computer.
Now it looks like the Netflix App will be improving significantly thanks to a recent update. Now, the application looks as if it’s actually made for Apple’s tablet. It’s now designed to look more like the iPhone App, which is a much better Netflix experience apart from the much smaller screen.
Gone in this version of the App are some of the functions that are less necessary on a mobile device, such as the reviews and the DVD queue. Oh well, probably no big deal for some, though it was nice to be able to add a movie to the list of incoming DVDs if it wasn’t available for streaming.
We’ve written before about why we enjoy Netflix so much, but it’s just one of those services you have to try out and see for yourself.
