Technology is wonderful, isn’t it? This video is from a guy named Joven over at ProtoDojo. He created this crazy invention that takes a classic NES controller and hooks it up to an Arduino board. That Arduino board controls some servos that are attached to the iPad’s screen and “touch” the screen as instructed by the button press.
What’s nice is that it doesn’t require a jailbreak or emulator or some other software to make it work correctly.
In the video above, you can see Reckless Racing being played in such a way that actually looks as if the player has control of the vehicle. We’d have liked to see the old NES favorite, Mega Man II, played with this setup, as we are sure it would be very awesome.
Of course there are a few controllers out there that are designed for iDevices. None of them seems to have gained any real notice, and some (even after all this time) don’t seem to have gone beyond a few pretty pictures on a website. Unfortunately, we don’t see any of these controllers having a great future ahead of them, which is probably why they will remain as nothing more than fun hacks and mods for the community.
You can also check out some of the other controllers we’ve seen in the past. Only these were meant for distribution:
