Sources within Apple's supply chain are hinting that the next-generation iPhone will go into production this July or August for a September debut. This ties in with previous reports of a scheduled late-2011 refresh of the iPhone 4. Reportedly, the update will not be a radical departure, design-wise.
The sources named several Taiwan-based manufacturers as key parts suppliers: Largan Precision Co. Ltd. (camera modules), Wintek Corp. (touchscreen panels) and Foxconn Technology Co. Ltd. (cases). Another Foxconn subsidiary (Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd.) is pegged as the final assembly point.
No word as to how the recent devastating earthquakes in Japan will impact the manufacture of other key components. And, it goes without saying, no comment from Apple or any of the manufacturers named above.
