T-Mobile may be shooting itself in the financial foot, or is on top of a way to lure over At&T and Verizon users.
For T-Mobile users, the ability to make phone calls using a Wi-Fi connection is now free for many users. If your account is what is called an “Even More” or the more premium “Even More Plus,” the Wi-Fi phone calls you make come without any change.
This service is more specifically for Android users who have the Smart WiFi app, though this often comes pre-installed. This feature can then be activated at the nearest T-Mobile store without any cost to the user.
Recently T-Mobile sent out this communication outlining exactly what the new service entails:
‚Äö√Ñ√∫Starting today, T-Mobile customers can add Free Wi-Fi Calling to their rate plan — at no additional charge — to place calls over Wi-Fi without deducting from their allotment of minutes. This new feature is available at T-Mobile retail stores to all customers on Even More and Even More Plus Postpaid rate plans who have Wi-Fi Calling capable handsets.‚Äö√Ñ√π
This will likely lead to decreased use of standard minutes, but since T-Mobile accounts come with a certain allotment of minutes you are not likely to see people moving to smaller accounts just in anticipation of Wi-Fi phone calls exclusively. Instead, this will likely just prevent customers from going over their minutes each month. More than this, it is going to be a powerful promotional tool to keep users who are being tempted by the iPhone.
