Apple is heard on making a swtich in the digital distribution for its Operating System upgrades. From now onwards, OS upgrades would be released first through the new Mac App Store. While many of you might term this as a rumor, AppleInsider seems confident carrying a word from an insider source.
The newly released Mac App Store, available to all users running the latest version, Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, will now act as the official method for obtaining the Lion Upgrade. Mac users would now be able to upgrade instantly without the hassle of obtaining any physical media by purchasing Lion via the Mac App Store.
Furthermore, the Mac App Store is being voiced on being the preferred method for instaling Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, set to release this summer.
Moreover, Apple would be providing physical media for those users who opt to "Do Not Download" due to various reasons with one of them being the slower internet connection.
The Cupertino company would reveal on its distribution plans for Lion at the upcoming Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC 2011) to take place in San Francisco, California through June 6-10.

This would not cause me any surprise given how they’re distributing developer previews.
