We’ve heard in the past that Apple is building their own map system into iOS. Heck, Apple even came out and said it after the locationgate thing. Now some new information comes up that shows that Apple may have something going on with their mapping system and partnering with Tom Tom, according to a report by website Mac Rumors. As has been widely reported in the past, Apple has already acquired mapping companies like Placebase and Poly9.
The legal disclaimers in iOS 5 have a section called Map Data, and lists several licenses from third-party companies such as CoreLogic, Getchee, Increment P Corp, Localeze, Tom Tom and several others.
