A while back, we learned that there were several fake Apple Stores in China. Crazy thing is, the employees were totally cool with the fact that they were fake. Based on reports we’d read, the merchandise was real, but the stores themselves were not. Now they are closing.
So why are the stores closing? Did Apple order them shut down? Nope. The reality is a bit funnier. A handful of the stores did not have business permits (via Reuters). This means that they must be shut down. So no, Apple police did not raid the stores, and it they aren’t being hit for copyright infringement. They just couldn’t be bothered to get a business permit. D’oh!
