As clever and innovative as Apple's Smart Cover for the iPad 2 is, when you get right down to it, it's only doing half the job. Sure it protects the touchscreen (and multitasks as automagic on-off switch and foldable stand), but there's that entire back side of your tablet that's still exposed to the elements — not to mention Murphy's Law. And while there are plenty of snap-on cases for iPad 2's, most of them are designed so that you can't use the Smart Cover at the same time. Can't we all just…get along?
To which AViiQ answers with a resounding "YES!" Their Smart Case for the iPad 2 (US$49.99) is designed to match up with the Smart Cover on both the functional and aesthetic fronts. The combination of ABS plastic shell and embedded aluminum plate act to both protect your iPad and dissipate any heat build-up from extended use. And while most snap-on iPad cases include cutouts for all the ports, speakers, and buttons, only the Smart Case leaves enough exposed space on one edge to install and use your Smart Cover in all its foldable functionality. Heck, they were even considerate enough to release the case in your choice of seven different colors to complement your Smart Cover!
(As luck — or irony — would have it, we'd already tried and rejected a Smart Cover as a clever but not fully essential iPad accessory; had the Smart Case been available at the time, we might not have been so rash…)
