Report: iOS 5 Will Make Use of Face Detection

According to a report from 9to5Mac, iOS 5 will be making use of face detection. This will be possible thanks to Apple’s 2010 acquisition of Polar Rose, a company that specializes in such technology.

We’ve already seen the face detection technology used in the latest version of Photo Booth, which shipped with Mac OS X Lion. This was shown off with stuff like the dazed effect, which put little cartoon birds  over a person’s head.

However, according to the report, Apple may not intend to use it for their own applications. They want to open up face detection as a technology that developers can use with their applications.
