Apple Releases iOS 5 Beta 5, Apple TV Beta 4 and More (Update)

iOS 5 beta 5 is out

Today is a big update date for Apple developers.

iOS 5 Beta 5

Developers can now download iOS 5 Beta 5. Apple is seeding out the latest build to iOS 5 Beta to app makers everywhere. We were using our iPhone and we received a push notification informing us that the software update was now available. We were near iSmashPhone HQ when we received the notification, which came in over 3G. However, as you may guess, you must (Update: It works over 3G, too. It took us under 10 minutes to upgrade)  be connected to a wifi network in order to download the update, which is thankfully over the air.

After downloading iOS 5, you simply hit install and let the iPhone do the rest. Make sure to back up before installing. Also remember to update when you can. Otherwise, when your firmware expires, you end up with the issue we had yesterday (Link).

Apple Updates Xcode iTunes Beta

Apple TV Beta 4

Apple TV Beta 4 was also released today. We’re still digging in and we’ll let you all know if we find anything immediately interesting. Keep in mind that Apple recently updated Apple TV firmware to the public, adding the ability to view TV shows without streaming from your computer.

Xcode 4.2 Developer Preview 5

Apple has also released Xcode 4.2 Developer preview 5. This is a toolset that iOS and Mac developers use for developing software.

iTunes 10.5 Beta 5

iTunes 10.5 Beta 5 is also available to developers. Users must download it in order to activate iOS 5 Beta 5 on their devices.

iOS 5 is set to launch this fall, with an expected arrival in September alongside the upcoming iPhone 5, Apple’s next generation iPhone. It seems things are moving along quite well for Apple.
