Hands-On Review: Coloud NHL Headphones

Coloud specializes in headphones (we’re guessing that’s where the “loud” in “Coloud” comes from), but not just any headphones.  Trademark association is definitely their thing.  The Coloud product line is chockablock with imprints from Hello Kitty, Betty Boop, and the Star Wars and Marvel Comics universes, as well as their own colorful “Pop Icons” and “Flag Series” lines.

Their newest line of full-size headsets are being produced in conjunction with the National Hockey League.  The US$39.90 headphones represent the Chicago Blackhawks, the Boston Bruins, the Detroit Red Wings, the Montreal Canadians, and the NY Rangers.  (Unfortunately, as of late August 2011, all but the Rangers model are sold out, and there’s no word if Coloud will be restocking and/or offering other hockey teams…)

We tried a pair of the Bruins headphones, and found them to be solidily constructed (the heavy-duty coiled cable is a nice extra) with a snug fit and a frequency response that didn’t noticeably color the source audio.  Full-ear headphones will almost always give you better-sounding audio than smaller, in-ear buds.

So if you want to blast your MP3 library while displaying your “team colors,” you’re in puck…er, luck.
