Hands-On Review: MetalliCover “Full Metal Jackets” For iPhone 4

Talk about “truth in advertising:” MetalliCover’s line of iPhone 4 protective covers are just that — engraved stainless-steel front- and back-plates, with an easy-to-install adhesive coating.  At 0.25mm (0.1″) thickness per plate and a total weight of  less then 20 grams (0.7 ounces), MetalliCovers offer protection without bulking out your handset’s size or weight.

The covers (US$30.00 for matching front and back sets; US$20.00 for backplates only) are available in fourteen different styles, ranging from zodiac symbols to exotic textures (the snakeskin pattern shown above is part of their “Fashionista” line).  If you have a custom design in mind, MetalliCover is open to working with you to make it a reality — just keep in mind there will be extra charges, and the resulting covers are non-returnable.

The peel-and-stick backing only requires that the underlying iPhone be dry and debris-free before installation; as we discovered, the covers can be easily removed and reapplied if necessary, but MetalliCover cautions that doing this too often will wear out the adhesive.  And for that “unified look,” a matching wallpaper for your iPhone’s screen can be downloaded after purchase.
