A recently published report by McAfee, makers of popular antivirus software, shows that Android has become the most attacked mobile operating system. They claim that 76 percent of mobile malware is targeted at the OS. Meanwhile iOS, webOS, BlackBerry and Symbian remain much safer.
Senior VP of McAfee Labs says, “This year we’ve seen record-breaking numbers of malware, especially on mobile devices, where the uptick is in direct correlation to popularity.” He adds that attacks are becoming “more stealth and more sophisticated.”
Recently, we learned that McAfee would be providing antivirus software for Sprint subscribers, so it’s a good time to let everyone know that Android has a crap-ton of malware targeted at it. We’ve found that as with a PC, as long as you don’t just go around downloading random junk, you should be okay for the most part.
