Sprint subscribers, your time is coming soon, if a recent Wall Street Journal report is to be believed. Citing “people familiar with the matter” Apple will begin selling a Sprint iPhone 5 in time for the handset’s launch across carriers AT&T and Verizon.
This is a win for both Apple and Sprint. Carriers love the iPhone, because it’s a big seller. Apple, on their end, needs carriers for the device because they need to stay competitive with rivals like Google’s Android, which is available on all the major carriers on a wide range of devices.
If WSJ’s sources are to be believed, the iPhone 5 will launch mid-October, which is in line with the October 7 to October 14 rumors we heard recently.
Interestingly, Sprint is also due to carry the iPhone 4 around that same time. This may be as Apple introduces the lower-cost Phone 4 with 8GB of storage.
