According to Bloomberg, Deutsche Telekom-owned wireless operators are taking reservations on the next-generation iPhone, which many say will be named the iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S.
The reservation is really little more than a ticket (only one per customer) that will help ensure that they are able to pick up the next handset. The reports also mention that it’s only really being offered to consumers that will not purchase an iPhone 3GS or an iPhone 4, because they know that the iPhone 5 is likely to be around the corner.
Even then, the ticket works on a first-come, first-served basis. For instance, if a store hands out 500 tickets, but they only get 400 handsets, 100 of those folks are out of luck. Even then, it’s not something they have been widely advertising.
We will see what Apple says when September comes around.
