Hands-On Review: Arkcanary II iPhone Speaker

We’re big fans of iPhone accessory maker Ark and their quirky products that put the “fun” back into “functional” (check out our previous review of their squishy, endearing ArkHippo case/stand), and the Arkcanary II is no exception.

We’d hazard a guess that someone at Ark had the following brainstorm: “Hey, why don’t we graft one of those old gramophone horns onto an iPhone?”  The result is the Arkcanary, a US$19.00 acoustic amplifying horn that snaps onto the speaker end of your iPhone.  It’s not the first gizmo we’ve encountered that accomplishes this particular sans-electricity sound-boosting trick (the Hive Dock is another notable example), but the Arkcanary is easily the most colorful, coming in a choice of purple, black, blue, green, pink, white, and orange.  By a funny coincidence, those are also the color choices for the Arkhippo — and gloriosky, both gizmos actually play well together!  And while color-coordinating seems the logical path to take, as you can see in the above image, Ark has no problem with eclectic mixing and matching.  (They might even prefer it that way…)
