Hands-On Review: id America iPhone 4 Cases (Gasket, Skyline, ICE/DRYICE)

We recently got our hands on some iPhone 4 cases from id America, and it’s pretty clear their stuff isn’t the Same Old Same Old.

Let’s start with the Gasket case.  Inspired by the look of a high-performance automobile engine, the brushed-aluminum case offers solid side and back protection; the cutouts, both strategic (camera/control) and decorative, contribute to the case’s light weight.  A soft felt inner lining shields your iPhone from metal-on-metal abrasion, while a four-layer outer coating protects the case itself from nicks and scratches.  Available in six different colors, the US$29.99 case includes front and back clear-film screen protectors, an installation squeegee, and microfiber cleaning cloth.

Metal not your thing?  Check out the Skyline (US$24.99), a semi-rigid polyurethane bumper case; its perforated back gives it a modern, Ikea-like vibe, and the matte-color choices add visual pop (yes, even in black or white).

Then again, if simple protection is your thing — and/or you’re on a budget — id America still has you covered, with the ICE (clear) and DRYICE (frosted) two-piece cases (US$19.99).  Both featured a raised front bezel to protect your screen even when the iPhone is laid face-down; the DRYICE additionally boasts an outer silicone coating for improved hand grip with a soft-case feel.  (And like the Gasket, the Skyline, ICE, and DRYICE cases include the screen protectors, squeegee, and cleaning cloth.)
