The AirPort Utility for iOS is a simple app designed for letting you check on the status of your AirPort connection from your iOS device.
I’m not networking, expert, I just know how to get things set up and running in my house. This app is enough for someone like myself to use without much hassle.
You can check out your connection status, your router address, IP address, and just about anything else that someone who actually needs to know those things would want to check out.
For More Casual Users
Perhaps more useful for users like us, is a page where you can check your current AirPort firmware (and upgrade if needed) and check the Wireless Clients, which is just a list of the devices currently connected on your network. You can check how strong their connections are, amongst other things.
Really, it’s just a tool for managing your wireless network. Most of us probably don’t know what a lot of those numbers and letters mean, and we probably will never have to. However, it’s nice to be able to update your firmware, check your connected devices, configure and even reset your AirPort Base Station from your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. It’s just the stuff most of us hope we rarely have to mess with.
