Apple Holds Memorial Service for Steve Jobs at Stanford

Steve Jobs’ memorial celebration was attended by some of Silicon Valley’s top folks. People like Larry Page, co-founder of Google and the founders of Adobe were at the service. As were many of the people who worked closely with Jobs, such as Apple CEO Tim Cook, who took over, at Steve’s request when he stepped down.

The event was also attended by the stars. Tim Allen, the actor who voiced Buzz Lightyear in Pixar’s Toy Story was in attendance, as was Bono of U2. Former President Bill Clinton and former Vice President Al Gore were also there.

The memorial service was held at Stanford University where Steve Jobs gave his famous commencement speech to the graduating students. This is also where he met his wife Laurene Powell-Jobs, who is reported to have arranged it. They met each other while she was attending Stanford after he gave a talk to students back in 1989. The story is kind of charming as we remember hearing it. He thought she was pretty, and he exchanged numbers with her. He almost left it at that, but as he was getting in his car, he saw her again. He thought to himself, “Do I want to go be in meetings all afternoon, or do I want to take this woman out to dinner?” It was something along those lines, and he figured he should make his move.

It definitely paid off, as they were married and remained together until the day he died.
