Being the Only National Carrier With No iPhone is Hurting T-Mobile

T-Mobile USA recently said that they may lose some subscribers as many of them move on to Sprint, AT&T or Verizon for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. This was shared during an earning report on Wednesday.

With the release of the iPhone 4S, T-Mobile became the only one of the four national carriers that doesn’t have the iPhone. They say that this may hurt them through the important fourth quarter.

The cellphone business has to be tough. T-Mobile may not have the subscriber base of the other carriers, and this isn’t going to help them. It’s strange to see how much one phone can shake up the mobile business. Not just in the sense that it helped popularize smartphones, but how much a carrier like T-Mobile has to worry about being the only carrier without it. Or how much of an advantage it was to AT&T when the were the only carrier with the handset.
