Lately, Apple’s App Store has been opening up to new types of services. Recently was the subscription option, for those who want to regularly receive magazines.
Now they have launched the first App Store game subscription service. Well, actually Big Fish Games did it, but Apple approved it.
For $6.99 a month, users will be able to access a library of games on their iOS devices. The thing to be mindful of, however, is that these games are streams. This means that you must be within range of a wifi connection in order to play, since the game is actually being streamed to your device. As Bloomberg points out, think of it as something like Netflix. You get all the games you want each month, but you have to be online to enjoy your entertainment.
Still, this opens up possibilities for other publishers to use a similar distribution method.
