In a video posted by the Chronic Dev Team’s Pod2G, we can see a untethered jailbroken iPod touch running iOS 5. It’s nice to see that things are moving along.
Everything seems to be working perfectly based on the video. Many of us have been waiting for an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak for some time and this looks to be it. Untethered simply means that the iOS device does not have to be plugged into a computer upon booting the device. This is very convenient as it saves a good three or four minutes of time (give or take a few) and means that you don’t have to have a computer nearby if you have to reboot your device. Previously, the best option was a semi-tethered boot, which meant you could still restart your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, but that would leave you without jailbreak software until you could reboot in tethered mode.
It’s also worth knowing that this will work on iOS 5.0.1 as well. As for the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S, still nothing other than “Will try iPad 2 and 4S after others are ready.”
No release date yet.
