Absinthe A5: iPad 2 and iPhone 4S Finally Get Untethered Jailbreak (How to)

You can finally jailbreak your iPad 2 or iPhone 4S thanks to a new jailbreak tool called Absinthe A5. The jailbreak teams worked hard on this one, so it’s worth taking a look at.

Here’s how to get your jailbreak on. Remember, it’s untethered, so you won’t need to plug your iOS device into your computer upon rebooting. Also, it’s currently Mac-only, but a Windows solution should be on the way.

First, you can find all your iOS IPSWs here. We will also be updating our jailbreak tools page with the new jb tools, so check back for that. For now, you can try to download them here.

You will need to have your firmware at 5.0 or 5.0.1 on your iPhone 4S. The iPad 2 should be at 5.0.1.

1) Launch the installer and connect your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 is connected to your computer.

2) Click on “Jailbreak” in the installer window.

3) Note: There is an error message that sometimes happens with the jailbreak “Error establishing database connection,” you can read about the issue and how to fix it here.

4) Click on the “Cydia” app when the jailbreak is complete. Wait a bit and select your Cydia settings: User, Hacker or Developer. Typically, User.

5) Click “Done.”

The video below shows you how to run the jailbreak:
