The New York Times recently published a great piece on Apple and why they outsource manufacturing. It’s very interesting and worth a read.
The article goes into why companies look to China for manufacturing, and it goes beyond costs. Basically, it’s fast and the many, many tiny components that make up these complex machines are all made in the same part of the world. This obviously speeds up manufacturing. Not to mention the workforce in the Chinese factories is way beyond what we have here.
There is much more to the story, and it’s something you definitely have to take a look at and read if you have time. We suggest taking a look at it by going over to the NYTimes website and grabbing a nice cup of coffee: Link.
