Some recently published patent applications reveal that Apple is considering adding Thunderbolt to iOS devices.
Of course, something worth keeping in mind is that this is just a patent application and really means nothing at this point. Still, there is a lot to be had from Thunderbolt. The data transfer speeds are much faster than USB. It’s very possible that Apple can keep their classic connectors and simple upgrade the charge cables so that users can plug into Thunderbolt-equipped Macs.
The faster data transfer would be extremely handy for syncing, especially with larger files such as HD movies or huge music libraries.
Regardless, it’s important to keep in mind that patents are filed all the time. Most don’t ever become anything, but this one could be very useful.
