Roku is going small with their next set-top box–er, streaming stick. That’s right, this one is not a set-top box, it looks like a USB stick. This is the Roku Streaming Stick, and it works pretty much like the old set-top box, but plugs directly into an HDMI port on your TV.
Right now, no pricing has been announced, and we don’t know whether to immediately expect 1080p or if we will first see a 720p. However, it was announced that there will eventually be multiple models.
The stick does use a specific type of HDMI port called MHL. The problem is that there aren’t many TVs equipped with that sort of port. Even some of the newer TVs out there, so it’s something consumers will have to look out for if they want to go with this Roku box–er, stick.
