According to T-Mobile USA, future iPhone models may be compatible with their Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) spectrum band. The current model iPhones are not compatible with AWS, which is why there is no Apple handset on T-Mobile’s network.
Here’s what T-Mobile CEO Phillip Humm had to say to All Things D:
“The key reason we didn’t have the iPhone in the past is we are on different band than globally the market was … That is something which will change over time. Chipsets are also evolving to be able to allow for more bands.”
If that’s the case, future iPhones may be compatible with T-Mobile’s network. After all, Apple does want the iPhone on as many carriers as possible.
