ABC’s Nightline is going to be venturing behind the doors of Foxconn’s plants, as they investigate the factories and their treatment of workers. Foxconn, who assembles most of our consumer electronics has been under fire lately for accusations of the poor treatment of employees.
Recently Apple has been working to either garner some good PR or to genuinely help alter the treatment of workers at Foxconn (probably both, actually) and even had the Fair Labor Association (FLA) to investigate. According to what is reported, they found “tons of issues.”
Anchor Bill Weir will have exclusive access to the factories in Shenzhen, China. This was granted by Apple. Again, this helps Apple with the whole transparency thing and it makes everyone else aware of any possible problems at these factories. Perhaps Foxconn can somewhat be scared into better treatment of workers. While saying that, we will also note that we don’t know the whole story. We’ve heard reports here and there, and it’s hard not to make assumptions or jump on Foxconn for what may or may not be poor treatment of workers. It sounds bad, but we don’t necessarily know the whole story.
