Apple has become the top consumer brand in Japan. That’s an interesting accomplishment. The company was 11th place last year and 64 just three years ago, according to a report. The reason for their huge growth? None other than the iPhone and iPad.
What makes this particularly interesting is that on the technology side, Japan doesn’t seem as eager to pick up on American brands. For instance, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 can’t gain much traction against local heroes Sony and Nintendo who offer the PlayStation 3 and Wii.
Japan is also known to be very smartphone-centric. We’re read many reports of how many users in Japan use their smartphones as their wallet. It carries much of their information and they even make purchases on their mobile devices and play games. The fact that an American company like Apple can win over locals like Sony is amazing.
