Endless War Hands-on (Review)

 Endless War

Endless War is a new game on the App Store. It’s basically a traditional arcade shoot ’em up (SHMUP). Think along the lines of Raiden or any other classic arcade shooter. It’s a fun genre, but there are definitely some things we loved and hated.

Let’s take a look.

The Game

The game is a regular arcade shoot ’em up. It’s top-view, so you can move left, right, up and down. Enemies scroll in from the top of the screen towards the direction you are coming from. They fire all sorts of shots and half the challenge is avoiding their bullets. While doing this, you must shoot at the bad guys. It can get a bit chaotic, but it’s fun. If you are a fan of arcade shooters, this is a good title for you.

What We Liked

We like playing it, and we like the concept. The ship we chose looked kinda cool. The game plays the way you’d expect it, and it’s a lot of fun to navigate the ship around and through hundreds of bullets without getting hit.

What We didn’t Like

The iPhone screen is small. It’s great for puzzle games, but it doesn’t do it for more precise movements. At least not for us. Maybe if we had little kid fingers. Either way, that iPhone screen size is nothing the developer can control. What we would like to do, however, is see this on the iPad. We tried it on our new iPad, and it was at iPhone resolution. This would have been great to see at full size and to control on the much larger screen.

Final Thoughts

Give it a try. The lite version is available for free. We’d like to play it on a larger screen, but we have to take what we can get for now. On a final note, we’d love to try something like this on an iPad with iCade. It would be a great combination.
