A recent report claims that the iPhone 4S is Japan’s top-selling phone. It has even outsold handsets from Fujitsu-Toshiba, Sharp and Panasonic, which are all favorites in Japan.
A report from IDC Japan estimates that Apple’s handset grabbed 26.6, or just over one-fourth of Japan’s mobile phone shipments, during the Oct-Dec 2011 quarter. Furthermore, mobile phone shipments for the country rose to 10.65 million units.
Rival phones such as those by by Fujitsu-Toshiba and Sharp claimed 18.3 percent and 15.7 percent of handset sales respectively. Not quite iPhone numbers.
Apple’s iPhone 4S launched in Japan about midway through October. Not to shabby, Apple, not to shabby.
