The iPhone product line is becoming the camera of choice for consumers, according to analyst Ben A. Reitzes with Barclays said in a not to investors earlier this week.
Some of this comes from Flickr data, which shows that the handset, specifically the iPhone 4, is the most popular camera on the site. It has more than 51 million registered users. The Canon EOS 5D Mark II, the Nikon D90 and a few other non-smartphone cameras follow on the list.
Data showing nothing but smartphones still has the iPhone 4 on top (obviously), but the iPhone 4S, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS follow. Ranked at 5 is HTC’s EVO 4G, but that had less than half of the users than the iPhone 3GS.
While many purists will argue that a handset like the iPhone does not replace a good digital camera (and we can’t really argue with that) the point is that many of us have our iPhone with us 24/7. It’s always in our pocket or purse, ready for a photo op.
