Yesterday Apple announced the new iPad. That’s what it was actually called during their press event, “the new iPad.” It wasn’t called the iPad 3 or the iPad HD. They just kept referring to it as “the new iPad.”
Well Apple VP of worldwide product marketing Phil Schiller was asked just that by the Wall Street Journal. He said it’s called the iPad “because we don’t want to be predictable.” That’s right. It’s as simple as that.
Of course some people are over thinking the whole thing and saying it’s confusing. Seems simple enough. It’s the iPad. Nothing confusing or backwards moving about that. In fact, I always figured that the iPad 2 would be called the ‘iPad’ before it was released, just as with the iPod and iPod touch.
Well, Apple fooled us there, didn’t they. Kudos on your unpredictability, Apple.
