A new report says that Apple seriously considered a hardware keyboard for the iPhone. The Verge spoke with Tony Fadell, who was part of the team behind the original iPhone (and worked on the handset up until the 3GS). He also had his hand in 18 generations of the iPod product line.
That would be pretty interesting. There were many ideas tossed around. One included an iPod that was a phone. Imagine dialing with a click-wheel.
Anyway, they finally settled on a screen with the one iconic home button. This design helped make non-hardware keyboards a popular part of today’s smartphones. Now we see devices with a touchscreen keyboard all over the place, in fact, it’s almost become the standard.
