The Flashback saga has not ended. Flashback was a piece of malware that made use of a Java exploit and infected over half a million Macs.
Apple was partly at fault here, because they didn’t stay on the ball with some necessary updates. Somewhere along the way, there was a security hole left open that Apple had not plugged. Shame on Apple. Now the necessary updates and tools have been released, but people haven’t updated. Shame on them.
Anyway, Oracle recently announced Java SE 7 Update 4. This means updates for Mac owners at the same time that Windows and Linux owners get them.
The updates come directly from Oracle, and we’re hopeful that this prevents future problems like Flashback.
