John Cusack actually met with Steve Jobs several years ago. Turns out that Jobs was a fan of the movie High Fidelity. He wanted Cusack to star in a commercial for the iPod as his High Fidelity character, a record store manager.
Steve flew him down in his Unfortunately, Cusack doesn’t do commercials, and he turned it down. However, he did seem to regret this one, saying “And I just said, ‘I don’t want to do a commercial.’ But now that I think about it, if I was ever to do a commercial that should have been the one. It was so cool that he was a fan of the movie.”
Furthermore, Cusack got a glimpse of iTunes and the iPod concept before everyone else, “… here’s the thing. He showed me the template, their rollout plans, iTunes before it was out — and I still didn’t buy Apple stock! That’s how stupid I am.”
We have to admit, back in 2000-2001, the idea seemed a bit far-fetched. We remember so many of our friends saying they didn’t want to buy an iPod, because they preferred having a physical CD. People wanted the case in their hands. Well, it’s been a few years, and it looks like things have changed drastically. Heck, now many of us can’t be bothered to buy a CD. My, my how things have changed.
