Amtrak is on its way to switching to iPhones as ticket scanners for passengers. They have been training conductors how to use the handsets for check-in since November, reports say.
The company hopes that by late summer 1,700 conductors will be using the iPhone as a ticket scanner.
What’s especially cool about this is that rather than having to print the ticket, passengers will be able to simply load the ticket image/barcode on their smartphone’s screen. This will make it quick and easy, and hopefully eliminate fumbling for that printed out piece of paper you were so sure you had in your pocket.
Apparently, this replaces tickets and hole punchers. Technology. YAY!
