We finally have a decent iTV rumor to report. It comes from a legit source.
It’s usually easy to disregard iTV reports and rumors. Most of them come from sources like Digitimes, which cites mysterious upstream suppliers that are never named. Interestingly, they never seem to get it right, either.
This time is different. The rumor comes from Foxconn CEO Terry Gou. He was talking to China Daily, and said that Foxconn is ready to begin work on the device. Here’s a portion of the report:
“Gou said Foxconn is making preparations for iTV, Apple Inc’s rumored upcoming high-definition television, although development or manufacturing has yet to begin … reportedly features an aluminum construction, Siri, and FaceTime video calling,”
It will be interesting to see how much of this is real. We know that Apple is pursuing the television market in some way, and it may not all be with the Apple TV set-top box.
For those confused about iTV, it’s the name many have placed on a rumored television set said to be in the works by Apple. Supposedly, it will run on iOS, make use of internet connectivity, Siri and have functions such as FaceTime chat and some of the other things that make iOS devices popular (apps, integration with the iOS, iCoud, and Mac OS ecosystem, etc).
