Google’s Jeff Huber recently posted on Google+ saying that the company will release their own iOS app that will offer a mapping service to compete with Apple’s Maps app.
This comes shortly after Apple announced their new application, which would be pre-installed on iOS devices in place of the current Maps app, which is powered by Google.
The comment itself was regarding a Google Street View exhibit at th Computer History Museum, but one commenter was unhappy with Apple’s plans to provide their own mapping app. That’s when Huber said that Google still wants to provide their maps on iOS.
Nothing was specified as to whether it will be browser-based or part of the App Store, but at least it’s clear that the company still wants to pursue mapping on iOS.
