Sources speaking with Bloomberg say that iTunes is expected to receive a major makeover in the near future.
The update should arrive before the end of the year, and is said to focus on iCloud integration to let users sync their media and may even add some sort of new sharing feature.
It’s reported that Apple is trying to negotiate deals with record labels in order to make it possible for users to share music without having to pay right away. It would be some sort of a free play feature that would allow friends to show each other new songs before one commits to purchase, which, in turn, could up sales for some music.
This is all in a possible move to counter new music services such as Spotify, which offers free, ad-supported listening to users.
Apple has a strong foothold in the music industry. It will be interesting to see if they can maintain that with all the new competition.
