Apple is working to correct an issue that lets users download in-app purchases without the need to pay. This is obviously a problem as it means users can download paid content for free. Even bigger is the problem that it can be done from just any regular iOS device and it doesn’t have to be jailbroken or modified in any way.
Apple’s official statement (via the Loop) is as follows:
“The security of the App Store is incredibly important to us and the developer community. We take reports of fraudulent activity very seriously and we are investigating.”
Also worth noting is that the Russian hacker who discovered the bug, Alexey Borodin, has explained how it works and how it could be fixed. Perhaps Apple will take a look at this and correct the issue.
