According to a recent report, we may be seeing the new iOS 6 Maps app coming to Mac OS X as well. This news comes from a developer by the name of Cody Cooper. He looked at the code within the Maps app and saw that iMacs, MacBooks and possibly PCs will have the application.
He saw that the code is optimized for Intel processors, and that it disables shading. The report says that the reason for that is that Intel processors aren’t very good at shading, and it’s likely why it’s disabled.
The Maps app will come with iOS 6, which launches this fall, presumably alongside the next-generation iPhone. It will be a departure from Apple’s use of Google Maps for their stock mapping app.
