Tap the Frog Hands-on (iSmashPhone Review)

Tap the Frog

Tap the Frog just got a new update. You may remember that we reviewed the second game a few months back, and found it to be highly-addictive. In fact, one of my good friends always hijacks my iPhone (or iPad) and plays the game when we hang out. Further proof that it’s fun.

Either way, the original Tap the Frog has received a major update. Here’s a portion of the email announcement:

I just wanted to follow up with you and let you know that we just released a major update to the original Tap the Frog. This is the most significant update that we have done since the game first released a year ago. Now, the game has 56 unique levels, character customization, improved graphics, Facebook integration, localization into 8 languages and much more.

Being that the game is free, and we enjoyed the sequel so much, we figured we’d give it a shot.

Tap the Frog is a bit like its successor in that it’s a compilation of microgames in which players must perform quick tasks such as tapping all the green frogs on the screen or tapping a frog repeatedly until it pops.

Many of the games feel like simpler versions of what you will find in Tap the Frog 2. For instance, one game has you tap a frog exactly when the onscreen timer hits five seconds. Another has you tap the frog the second it turns from green to blue. These are easy games, but the challenge is trying to get that time down by fractions of a second.

While the games may not feel quite as varied as those in the second title, it’s still a good deal of fun, especially since the game is available for the dirt-cheap price of free.

This game can definitely serve as an introduction to the sequel. That said, we still prefer the second game, but that’s just an opinion. Tap the Frog 2 was more fun for us, but the first one is free, and that price is hard to beat.
