It’s virtually confirmed by now that the next iPhone will have a smaller dock connector. Sure, it’s not official, but it’s been reported so many times by various outlets that it’s almost safe to say it’s happening. Now, iOS 6 hints at the smaller connecter somewhere deep within its code.
Somewhere in the latest developer build of iOS 6 is a mention of a 9-pin connector. This does two things: 1) It reaffirms the likelihood of the smaller dock connector; 2) If that’s the case, it tells us that the connector has 9 pins.
Within the iOS code, there is a piece that reads “0002d9c t_copyDeviceSupports9Pin.” This is a pretty good hint of what we may see in the next iPhone, and in iOS devices from here on out.
Let’s see what happens next.
