iPhone 5 Event: What Else Did Apple Announce?

Apple announced a slew of new things today. Aside from the iPhone 5, a new iPod nano and a new iPod touch, the Cupertino company announced some new accessories and a new version of iTunes. Let’s take a look at some of the other things Apple announced today.

1) New Earbuds

Apple announced new earbuds at today’s event. They are called EarPods. They are just like the leaked photos show. They are shaped to better fit the ear, so it will be interesting to see how they feel with some real-world use.

2) New iTunes

iTunes is being given a makeover. The design is totally new, and there are updated features such as queuing up a song. Here’s what Apple’s announcement says about iTunes:

The redesigned iTunes features a full-window interface on your Mac or PC that’s simpler and cleaner, always keeping your favorite content in front of you. The new library view makes it easier to view your music, TV shows and movies, allowing you to click on the category of content you want to browse and that’s all you will see. The expandable album view allows you to see track listings for an individual album, while letting you continue to browse your music library. The new search feature searches across your entire iTunes library, including music, movies and TV shows. The re-imagined MiniPlayer makes it easy to control your music with a small tool bar, you can skip to the next song or search for something new to play—all without having to open your library. Up Next is a fun new way to see what songs are coming up and queue songs or albums you want to hear next.

3) iOS 6 release date

iOS 6 will release on September 19. It adds improved mapping with turn-by-turn navigation and Siri updates. You also get Passbook, which is like a virtual ticket holder for your iPhone.

4) iPhone 4 is free with contract, iPhone 4S is $99 and the old iPod touch will stick around at a lower price

The iPhone 4 will now cost you nothing if you get it with a 2-year contract. If you pick up a 4S, look to pay $99. Meanwhile, the iPod touch 4th-gen model will stick around. It will get a nice little price drop, too. If you want a 16GB version, you will pay $199. Looking for the 32GB? Try $249.

Good day for Apple

Apple had plenty of announcements. Right now, Tim Cook is kicking back in his easy chair having a cold beer. Well, for all we know the guy doesn’t like beer. Either way, he’s probably very happy right now. We don’t blame him. He’s going to sell like 4 million of those handsets over the first weekend.
