According to analyst Paul Mueller, Apple may be prototyping a 16:9 iPad. Currently, the tablet has a 4:3 aspect ratio, and widescreen content is shown in letterbox form.
It’s hard to say whether or not this is true, but doing something like this could mean some interesting changes for the iPad. Apple would likely want to figure out how to make it longer, but not awkward to hold.
It’s also worth noting that companies, Apple included, prototype ideas all the time. Most of those ideas will never happen. That doesn’t mean Apple isn’t playing with the idea, or considering it. It just means they may and they may not. Either way, prototypes are nothing unusual for Apple.
