Still Trying to Buy an iPhone 5? It’s Not Easy, But Here Are Some Suggestions

iPhone 5 Standing

It would be wonderful if there was just some sort of iPhone tracker online.  We’re not talking about FindMyiPhone or some way to recover a lost iPhone. We mean finding an iPhone 5 at a store. Sadly, there isn’t such a tool. However, here are a few things you can try to do if you want to increase your chances of getting an iPhone 5.

1) Apple Reservations

Apple will allow you to purchase the iPhone 5 direct from them, but rather than ordering, you can pay and pick it up at the store the next day. This requires that you pay for it and do it between the hours of 10pm and 4am the day before pickup. Of course they must have some in stock. The good thing is that you have paid for it, so it’s yours to pick up. Any other iPhones in store (those not purchased) are first-come, first-served.

2) Your Carrier

Usually, you must purchase online and wait for backordered handsets to come in. This can take a while. We can suggest this: If you have a good relationship with your local store, talk to one of the folks there. Our AT&T guy is awesome. He has called us to let us know when they receive any iPhone 5 units. Of course it’s still first-come, first-served, but that’s cool customer service, and one of the benefits of being a good customer (you know, paying your bill and buying from the same rep when you go).

3) In-Store Locators

We urge you to be a bit cautious, because they don’t always reflect what’s in stock. Still, you can give it a shot and use the store finders. If there are any available in your area, give them a call to make sure:

Best Buy

Other stores like Target do sell the handsets, but they are only available in-store, and they don’t have any sort of iPhone tracker or pick-up option. You just have to call, or drive over and hope you get lucky.

Good Luck

Sure. There isn’t a lot you can do to guarantee yourself an iPhone 5 right now. You just have to shop around, call places and get lucky. It’s going to be even harder if you want a specific model. Best of luck finding your iPhone 5.
